Organic Beauty Products Made in the US: A Perfume Organic

A Perfume Organic | New York City (NY) | USA

« A Perfume Organic - Certified Organic Perfume from New York City »

Organic beauty label « A Perfume Organic » from New York City offers certified organic perfumes that are hand-poured in small batches using the finest USDA certified organic botanicals.

But A Perfume Organic’s environmental commitment goes far beyond the perfume ingredients. To reduce waste all packaging is minimal and recyclable, and all marketing materials are printed on recycled paper with vegetable inks. Further, their perfume boxes are embedded with flower seeds and can be planted.

Because we like niche beauty brands we wanted to learn more on the story behind and met with Amanda Walker, the owner and creative mind behind A Perfume Organic. She truly is passionate about perfume and her ecological business venture. You can feel and see the enthusiasm the moment she starts talking about perfume and organic perfumes in particular, the sampling, the growing of organic herbs on her fire stairs and her networking activities with her fellow NYC Natural Perfumers.

It was great to hear how she explained the creation of her Perfumed Wine -Rosé perfume with the help of a wine sommelier inspired by Rosé wine.

Amanda is for sure passionate about making a difference with her business and we believe her story is another great example for young entrepreneurship at its best. This is why we have asked her a couple of additional questions. Here is what she has told us. Enjoy!

How would you summarize A Perfume Organic in one sentence?

A Perfume Organic is passionately committed to offering the finest certified organic perfumes possible.

Why perfume?

Since I was a little girl, scent has always been my favorite sense. I realized very early the importance scent plays in taste, as well as its effect on one’s mood and triggering of memories. In researching the history of perfume and its formulation, I discovered that the ingredients aren’t merely cosmetic, but, if sourced organically, can be systemically restorative.

Was there a triggering event, how did you come up with the idea for A Perfume Organic?

While working in the beauty industry and researching as part of a commercialization team, I realized there were really only one or two brands of perfumes available that were certified organic. I was always searching for more healthy alternatives to synthetic perfumes, which constantly gave me headaches and triggered my asthma. I had always been infatuated with scent since I was a little girl, so I decided to focus that enthusiasm on doing my best to bring perfume back to its original concept as a restorative, healthy and naturally intoxicating sensory experience rather than the synthetic concoction of often-times toxic and harmful chemicals that it had unfortunately morphed into.

Did you immediately decide to run with your idea or did it take some time?

It wasn’t exactly immediate. It took a little time, but really only with respect to the logistics of sourcing the purest ingredients and the most eco-friendly materials available.

Why did you decide to start a business now in the midst of the economic downturn? Isn’t this particularly hard?

In all honesty, my primary goal was not to “get rich quick”, but to bring the best possible product to the market, and also to educate people and foster the market for healthy and natural organic beauty products. That being said, the current economy is difficult for us as much as it is for anyone. But prioritizing profits over quality is what led to the industry’s unfortunate takeover by synthetic and unhealthy chemicals in the first place.

Are you running a « one-woman-show »?

For the most part, I’m a « one-woman-show » – but nobody could do it completely alone. I have a wonderful group of consultants that assist with photography, public relations etc.

How long did it take you from the idea to the launch?

About a year and a half.

Did you have a mentor?

No, but there were many people who inspired me, such as Horst Rechelbacher, Alexandra Balahoutis, Yosh Han and David Crow.

What inspires you?

Nature.

Do you develop your perfumes all by yourself ? How does it work?

Yes, I do the formulation all by myself. I’m always looking for new potential ingredient, so when I come across something intriguing, I create literally hundreds of varying formulations in order to come up with what I think is the best new perfume.

What’s your bestseller?

Urban Organic. People really love the vanilla, grapefruit and lavender combination.

How would you describe your ideal customer?

Someone like me! Anyone who loves perfume, is environmentally conscious and is always seeking out the healthiest alternative.

What has been the most exciting moment so far?

The first time I saw my product beautifully displayed in an amazing store like ABC Home. Also, seeing my product on TV, and being interviewed on the radio were pretty awesome too.

Any lessons learned?

Doing something you love and are passionate about is far more rewarding than doing something based solely on money.

What does it take to be/become an entrepreneur in your view?

Passion, ambition and ethics.

Do you have a favorite quote?

« Don’t put anything on your skin you wouldn’t put in your mouth. » Horst Rechelbacher

What's next?

More perfumes, and a new line of “lite” perfumes made with certified organic hydrosols.

What’s your vision for Perfume Organic in five years from now?

As a leader in promoting and furthering a growing popularity in healthy, natural and organic beauty, I’d like to host a symposium in Manhattan for my NYC Natural Perfumers group and natural beauty manufacturers from all over the world to work together and continue to develop the best products possible.

Isn't this another truly inspiring story of a passionate young business owner? By the way, our favorites are Amanda's Urban Magic and White Magic. But go and see for yourself. Enjoy!

PANGEA ORGANICS | Boulder (CO) | USA

Internal Page: the meaning of the charitable and the recession-proof cat icons
« Hip Plant-based Beauty Products in Cool Green Packaging »

In 2001 Joshua Scott Onysko established PANGEA ORGANICS a cool and in every way truly unique and innovative organic beauty label for organic beauty products made in the US.

Scott summarizes PANGEA ORGANICS' philosophy as « ecocentric cosmetics - always beneficial, never articificial ».

PANGEA ORGANICS' mission is as simple as this: “We only want to make things better.”

How do they try to accomplish this?

First PANGEA ORGANICS products are organic and 100% plant-based. Everything that is in their products is declared on their labels. And it is said that they support organic farming in over 35 countries where they source their natural ingredients from!

Second PANGEA ORGANICS packages all its beauty products in zero waste packaging boxes, which are made from 100% recycled paper and organic seeds.
So, instead of throwing the packaging away you can further benefit from it and recycle it. All you have to do is to pull of the label, soak the carton in water and plant it. Isn’t that a great and truly unique idea to preserve our environment?

PANGEA ORGANICS offers you an abundant variety of great products for face and body. You will certainly find the products for your needs and aroma preferences. As you can see from the above pictures the truly unique and innovative « green » packaging also looks great.

Our favorites are the body products scented with « Indian Lemongrass & Thyme » and « Egyptian Basil & Mint » because we love the scent. But we also love the « Japanese Matcha Tea with Acai & Goji Berry Facial Mask » and the facial scrub « Egyptian Geranium with Adzuki Bean & Cranberry ».

And the best about buying PANGEA ORGANICS: you can really feel good about yourself. It isn’t just about buying some great green cosmetics that come in stylish packaging - it does you good and it is good for everybody.

Why is it good for others? It is said that PANGEA ORGANICS donates 25% of its profits to its non-profit arm, the « Pangea Institute » whose purpose is to research and teach sustainable living and business practices.

You see, PANGEA ORGANICS applies a truly exceptional holistic approach, which proves that it really intends to make things better. We believe it is for a reason that PANGEA ORGANICS is the currently fastest growing organic beauty label.

But go and see for yourself. And remember: it is for many good reasons.

Enjoy!
