Shanghai Shopping Highlights for GreaT contemporary design AND Unique GIFTS
Our top three shopping highlights in Shanghai 2010 if you look for great contemporary design and unique gifts are:
LES LUCIOLES, a concept store for all things creative and where you can discover some great emerging fashion labels from allover the world. The owners are two lovely French ladies that for sure have an eye for great design. For more information read our entry on lifestyle - concept stores.
PLATANE, a great concept store for contemporary home accessories. Platane offers a balanced mix of interior design objects that can be best described as East meets West.
SPIN Ceramics, the location for great contemporary ceramics such as modern interpretations of the classic Chinese tea cups and tea sets. If you are worried about the extra luggage: they ship your purchase at affordable rates! We have already let our purchases ship a couple of times and the goods always arrived in perfect condition in Switzerland. And, after being back it is even nicer to open their boxes with beautiful cups and bowls as you kind of re-experience it all again. But beware, they moved their shop in March 2011 to 360 Kanding Road (near the intersection of Shan'Xi N Road and opposite the gas station). The new shop is at least as difficult to discover as the old location on Julu Road. But, this is part of their strategy as we were told.
The top three list above is my personal judgment based on the many shops I have visited on my last trip. But there is so much more to be discovered for every taste. Just wander around to get inspired.
