Travel website Spoontrip lists authentic local food experiences such as culinary tours and cooking classes worldwide.
Spoontrip's motto is « travel far, eat local ». Its directory of culinary experiences aims to help you discover a place through its local products and the passionate people who make them. Spoontrip's directory is a perfect match for frequent travelers and foodies looking for the real life and some authentic food while traveling abroad.
We first fell in love with their cute avatar, which makes us smile every time we look at it. And, since we heart start-ups, unique ideas and all things food, we decided to cover this hip new French start-up here.
Spoontrip launched in spring 2011. Co-founders Isabelle Mellinger and David Biais both opted for a career makeover. Isabelle, a former consultant, worked in banking and David was CEO of a green advertising business when they decided to introduce the niche they themselves had been looking for: a guide for foodie travelers.
Spoontrip covers a braod range of culinary adventures. Listings include markets tours, meet-and-greets with producers, tastings, gourmet walks, cooking classes, weekend stays at a farm, gastronomy-themed holidays, and wine tastings to mention some. For the time being the majority covers activities within France or Europe but the directory is growing quickly. So, make sure to check back from time to time.
How does it work? Simply search Spoontrip based on what kind of activity you are up for, when and where in the world to receive a list with offers. The activities with the best Spoontrip community ratings will appear at the top of the search results.
What we like best about this start-up is that it is all about unique experiences, authenticity and the personal touch. This makes Spoontrip so special.
And, last but not least it helps small business owners in the area of culinary services to reach a global customer base as they can simply add their offer and manage their listing on the Spoontrip site themselves. Since they only have to pay a 15% fee to Spoontrip once they have received the payment for an activity booked through Spoontrip, it’s a win-win for everyone. Customers looking for an off-the-beaten track culinary experience abroad can easily connect with the start-ups or small business offering such niche service. Sounds great?
But go and see for yourself. Enjoy!

Travel website Joobili provides travel ideas and inspiration by time. Joobili's mission is to promote the art of timely travel. Their slogan is « you say when, we say where ».
The idea behind this cool travel website is simple as this: experience shows that it is important to travel at the right time as destinations vary with the seasons and the events going on. The same location may offer a totally different feeling at different times of the year or within weeks. This is why Jared Salter and Tomas Gabo have decided to come up with their unique travel website and sort of timely travel search engine to help you make the right choice depending on your interests.
All you need to do to get some travel inspiration is to enter your travel dates and your preferences/interest and specific country if you wish to get a more tailored search result. Joobili takes into account which types of events are going on during which time of the year to come up with travel ideas.
The site launched in 2009 but it is quite impressive what amount of data they have already collected. Currently, the search focuses on European events and locations but the database is growing steadily. We are sure that it won’t take long until they cover other regions of the world.
If you love to travel and consider yourself an expert you may also join the Joobili community to add your views and experience to their database and connect with like-minded travelers.
We think that Joobili has a great concept. And the unique travel website has already created quite some buzz out there. It was nominated for the web 2.0 travel awards and was even elected among « The Top 100 Web Sites of 2009 » by PCMag.com. The success of Joobili is apparent.
But go and see for yourself. Hopefully you will get inspired!
Enjoy!
